Here you can find a list all different United States Army Theaters of Operation. In total there are 4 Theaters and for every Theater we have added pictures of their insignia (some with variations) and some background information. European Theater of Operations (ETO)

The European Theater of Operations (ETO for short) was responsible for managing US Army operations in Europe during World War Two. The ETO commanded Army Ground Forces, Army Air Forces, and Army Service Forces operations north of Italy and the Mediterranean coast.

Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO)

The Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO for short) was responsible for managing US Army operations in the Pacific during World War Two. The PTO commanded Army Ground Forces, Army Air Forces, and Army Service Forces operations in almost the whole Pacific area.

 

The insignia is a blue circle with a red arrow pointing toward the North-West. Usually there are 12 white stars surrounding the arrow.

 

North African Theater of Operations (NATO)
Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO)
The North African Theater of Operations was responsible for managing US Army operations in North Africa during World War Two. It was renamed in 1944 tot the Mediterranean Theater of Operations when Italy became part of the areas the NATO had to manage. The NATO commanded Army Ground Forces, Army Air Forces, and Army Service Forces operations in Northern Africa and Italy.

 

The insignia is a white temple shape with a red border and a blue star in the middle.

 

China Burma India Theater of Operations (CBI)

The China Burma India Theater of Operations was responsible for managing US Army operations in part of the Pacific during World War Two. The CBI commanded Army Ground Forces, Army Air Forces, and Army Service Forces operations in China and Southeast Asia.

 

The insignia is shield shaped with a Chinese sun and a white american star. Also the American colors are depicted in the background.
