Other Armored Patches
Here you can find a list different United States Army Armored Divisions related groups that saw action during World War Two. For every Armored Division related group we have added pictures of their insignia (some with variations) and some background information. The patches seen here are made during the World War Two era. Tank Destroyer Battalion
These patches were worn by members of US Tank destroyer battalions. Often in combination with other division patches. Tank destroyer battalions either worked with anti-tank guns or with self-propelled guns.
The insignia of the tank destroyers is a orange/yellow circular patch with a black border. In the middle is a panther biting down and destroying a tank. These tanks often have 4 wheels, but there are variations of 6 and 8 wheels.
Armored Command Patch
The Armored Command was the overlapping organisation that was in charge of the various Armored Corpses who were each responsible for various Armored Divisions.
The patch is a triangle with a yellow/blue/red background. In the middle of the triangle there is a tanktrack, with crossed canon and lightning bolt.
2nd Armored Corps Patch
The 2nd Armored Corps was the overlapping organisation that was in charge of various Armored Divisions.
The Corps patch is a triangle with a yellow/blue/red background. In the middle of the triangle there is a tanktrack, with crossed canon and lightning bolt, above the insignia there is the roman number II for the second corps.
3rd Armored Corps Patch
The 3rd Armored Corps was the overlapping organisation that was in charge of various Armored Divisions.
The Corps patch is a triangle with a yellow/blue/red background. In the middle of the triangle there is a tanktrack, with crossed canon and lightning bolt, above the insignia there is the roman number III for the Third Corps.
4th Armored Corps Patch
The 4th Armored Corps was the overlapping organisation that was in charge of various Armored Divisions.
The Corps patch is a triangle with a yellow/blue/red background. In the middle of the triangle there is a tanktrack, with crossed canon and lightning bolt, above the insignia there is the roman number IV for the fourth corps.
17th Armored Engineer Battalion Patch
The 17th Armored Engineer Battalion was a part of the 2nd Armored Division. During World War II, they were active in North African Campaign, and Western Europe Campaign.
The battalions patch is a triangle with a yellow/blue/red background. In the middle of the triangle there is a tanktrack, with crossed canon and lightning bolt, above the insignia there is the number 17 for the battalion.
788th Amphibian Tractor Battalion patch
The 788th Battalion was active in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War Two.
The battalion patch is a triangle with a yellow/blue/red background. In the middle of the triangle there is a tanktrack, with crossed canon and lightning bolt, above the insignia there is the number 788 for the battalion.
Armored Division Tab Hell On Wheels
These types of patches and variants were already made and worn during the war. Often just after the war, a lot of these patches were made to be worn by veterans. Wearing these tabs was officially approved in the late 1940s. This specific tab was worn by the 2nd Armored Division who's nickname was Hell on Wheels.
The insignia is usually a yellow bar with black lettering.
