Regimental & Battalion Patches

Here you can find a list different World War Two regiments and battalions that saw action during World War Two. For every regiment or battalion we have added pictures of their insignia (some with variations) and some background information. The patches found in this category don't fit in the other categories in the database. It is possible that not every regiment or battalion is found here but is found elsewhere. For example the Tank Destroyer Battalion patch, placed with the Armored patches. The patches seen here are made during the World War Two era. We hope you find this helpful!


2nd Ranger Battalion

The 2nd Ranger Battalion was active in the European Theater of Operation. It was officially activated in 1943 and shipped to England in preparation for D-day. On 6 June 1944, parts of the battalion launched an assault at Point Du Hoc and Omaha Beach. The battalion was  later involved in the Battle for Brest and the Battle of Hürtgen Forest where they led the assault on Hill 400.

The insignia of the 2nd Ranger Battalion is a black scroll with red borders and white letters depicting the name.

Nickname: Army Rangers

 

5th Ranger Battalion

The 5th Ranger Battalion was active in the European Theater of Operation. It was officially activated in 1943 and shipped to England in preparation for D-day. On 6 June 1944, parts of the battalion launched an assault at Omaha Beach and west of Vierville. The battalion was  later involved in the Battle for Brest and the Battle of Hürtgen Forest

 

The insignia of the 5th Ranger Battalion is a black scroll with red borders and white letters depicting the name.

 

1st Special Service Force

The First Special Service Force was active in the ETO And PTO and was comprised of American and Canadian forces. The unit served as a commando force for special operations. The Force served in the Aleutian Islands, and fought in Italy and southern France before being disbanded in December 1944.

The insignia of the 1st Special Service Force is a red spearpoint/arrowhead with in white lettering USA and Canada.

Nickname: The Devil's Brigade, The Black Devils

 

Kiska Task Force

Troops of the First Special Service Force were tasked to take over the Kiska Island close to Alaska. The Japanese used Kiska as a way to lure parts of the US forces away from Midway. It was was comprised of American and Canadian forces. Forces that were part of this special operation wore the patch on their right of left shoulder.

The insignia of the Kiska Task Force is a blue round patch with a white border. In the middle is a knife.

 

 

 

442nd Infantry Regiment

The 442nd Infantry Regiment or 442nd Regimental Combat Team was active in the European Theater of Operations. The unit was almost entirely made up of Americans from Japanese Ancestry. The unit is the most decorated in US military history and played a significant role in the liberation of Italy and the capture of Monte Casino.

The insignia of the 442nd infantry Regiment is a blue hexagon shape with a red and white border. In the middle is a white hand holding a torch.

Seabees

The Seabees were the US Naval Construction Battalions and were active in the ETO, PTO and the USA. The nickname came from the letters CB from the words Construction Battalion. The units comprised of naval personnel working on repairs and demolitions.

 

The insignia of the Seabees is a blue round patch with a white border. In the middle is a bee with a navy cap and tools in his hands. Below the bee is the word seabeas.
